WEARABLE TABLE AS “IN-BETWEEN SPACE”
AN EXPLORATION OF AN OBJECT AND ITS POTENTIAL
This project investigates object, space and user
relationship. It puts demand on the object created.
If the point of human existence is the possibility
of potentiality and connection, then shouldn’t
the same stand for the objects we design?
Technology is pushing us toward the impossible.
The wearable table is not simply a passive object
but an active participant in the communication
between users and objects. This project strives to
create new ways of connecting. It is about
re-appropriating object/user relationship. It is also
about challenging the ways we inhabit the space.
As users and designers we have become more
and more passive with our available tools.
We don’t recognize ourselves in the objects we
make. We forget that the objects we surround
ourselves with, in one way or another, make us
whole. Self, due to constant technological
improvements in communication is never whole.
We rely on things to complete us. Those things
however, take on a very limiting role. They each
serve only a set purpose. Pointing out the “prosthetic
culture” and “cyborg anthropology”, objects
have become prosthetics for our bodies.
We limit ourselves by what we create. Why not
look at the process of designing as an opportunity
for potentiality of endless experiments?
We know that technology transforms. It can
change the natural order of things. If we throw
in a sprinkle of art on top of this designing of
new technology, we can bring potential to the
possible.
